Newsworthy Highlights
The faculty at Hononegah is currently implementing a model of Shared Decision Making, which will be presented at the Spring Conference (May 7-8, 1997) of the Illinois Alliance of Essential Schools (IAES). The Leadership Team involving department heads, students and members of the community work on a variety of areas including technology, allocation of money, school policies, curriculum, and introduction of new courses. The principal is working towards involving the school board in these decision-making processes.
Team-teaching and interdisciplinary teaching are encouraged at Hononegah. The teachers are also encouraged to practice Outcome-Based-Learning strategies. The school is in the process of planning senior exhibitions that will eventually be followed by exhibitions at other grade levels.
Hononegah has recently applied to the Annenberg Foundation for
participation in the Critical Friends Group. The assistant
administrator, Julie Morris will be the coach for the group. The
school will know in April if it has been accepted in the program. The
IAES office will support the development and progress of the Critical
Friends Group at Hononegah.
