Malta is a small rural community located 60 miles west of Chicago along the high-tech corridor. Malta High School is located about one mile east of Malta on U.S. Highway 38. Students at Malta High School come from diverse backgrounds which enhance their opportunities to learn from one another. Because Malta is located between Kishwaukee College and Northern Illinois University, students have use of vast resources that might not otherwise be available.
Malta High School's total enrollment is 130 students. Of those students, 99.2% are White, 0.0% are Black, 0.0% are Hispanic, 0.8% are Asian/Pacific Islander, and 0.0% are Native American.
Malta is a proud member of both the Illinois Alliance of Essential Schools and the Coalition of Essential Schools. The goal of both groups is to improve the quality of instruction in American high schools. To achieve this goal, the school's goals are simple, emphasizing the mastery of a limited number of essential skills which apply to all students. Teaching and learning are personalized with the student as worker. At the end of his/her high school career, a student is expected to exhibit a mastery of knowledge and skills that prepare him/her for a career or continued education. Malta also serves its students in a block schedule environment.
