Community Description
Mt. Carmel is a rural community with a population of approximately 9,000 located in southeastern Illinois on the Indiana border. Mining, manufacturing, farming, small business and governmental entities provide employment for Mt. Carmel. The school district, Wabash C.U.S.D. #348, covers 186 square miles and hs a student population of 2,100. Two parochial schools, along with a small K-8 poublic school district, account for 435 students in Wabash County.
Demographics of the School
District #348 serves 235 students through special educational services, and they have 205 students receiving Title 1 services. The racial/ethnic composition of District #348 is 98.7% White, 0.7% Black, 0.1% Hispanic, 0.5% Asian/Pacific Islander, and 0.0% Native American. The gender composition of students in District #348 is 51% male and 49% female. English is the language of all students.
