A trip to the Art Institute of Chicago was our field trip. This is a painting of considerable interest to me. It utilizes “pointillism”, which means small point. Every image displayed on the monitor is composed of tiny dots called pixels, an abbreviated form for 'picture elements.'
During the nineteenth Century, several artists created works which were similar in composition to the dot patterns we think of when we talk about graphics. Georges Seurat and Henri Toulouse-Latrec, among others were known for this type of art which is called 'pointillism.'
Here is a famous painting by Seurat titled 'Sunday afternoon at La Grande Jatte." The original painting is approximately 25 feet wide.
